Irvington's 3rd graders recently learned about Pablo Picasso and his Cubism painting style. We discussed "realistic" vs. "abstract" art and practiced drawing in an abstract, cubist way in our sketchbooks. Picasso's "Three Musicians" painting is the inspiration for our Cubism Instrument project. Each student selected a musical instrument to focus on from one of the four instrument families. For the background, the students learned about tints and shades and used one color to paint a monochromatic design. The students used crayons, oil pastels, watercolor and tempera paint, paper, and glue to complete these mixed media artworks. I can't wait to hang them up outside Irvington's music classroom! |
