Art at IrvingtonI believe the art studio should be a fun, safe, and positive environment for everyone. My art classes touch upon many different mediums and techniques, and students will learn about artists from various cultures, backgrounds, and art styles. Because students have a variety of skill levels, I like to alternate challenging projects with ones that everyone can be successful at. The only students who fail art are the ones who don't try!
The National Core Arts Standards, which encompass all art disciplines from grades K-12, can be viewed here. I believe a strong arts education provides students with the 21st Century Skills needed to ready themselves for both future education and employment. Supply ListGrades 6-8 students are required to bring a 8.5x11" sketchbook to class. Hardbound or spiral sketchbooks are preferred, as tape-bound drawing pads tend to fall apart very quickly with daily use. In a pinch, regular lined-paper notebooks will do just fine.
DonationsDonations are always welcome any time of the year! Materials that can be re-purposed are especially useful (cardboard tubes and cereal boxes, coffee/oatmeal canisters, egg cartons, etc). We also always can use buttons, fabric, yarn....whatever you can think of, we can find a use for!
You can also view some wish list art supplies I've selected on Blick's Art Room Aid donations website. As always, thank you for supporting the artistic possibilities for Irvington's students! |
