6th Grade have been practicing using line and positive/negative space in their sketchbooks. The students will be creating zentangle designs within the negative space of their artwork. The positive space will be left empty to create contrast. Although zentangle is usually done in black and white, I can't stop thinking about how beautiful they'd look with some watercolor washes on top! I can't wait to see them when they're complete! |
7th Grade have been practicing line, lettering, and typography in their sketchbooks. For their upcoming project, students will learn about and draw inspiration from graffiti art and will create stylized lettering of their names within a collage. For practice with graffiti-style lettering, check out these two websites: Graffiti Diplomacy and Graffiti Creator. These are sure to liven up our mostly-empty hallways at Irvington. |
8th Grade have been practicing contour line drawings in their sketchbooks, and will be using their new skills to "sculpt with line". They'll be creating a CONTOUR PORTRAIT WIRE SCULPTURE of a person they respect or admire. So their homework (for 9/25) is to bring in a photograph of a friend, family member, or celebrity they want to use as a subject for their sculpture. I'll be demonstrating with a sculpture of Neil deGrasse Tyson. I can't wait to see how these turn out! |
